No visit to Weirs Beach would be complete without an excursion out onto Lake Winnipesaukee. From Weirs Beach, even with its vast view, you are only seeing a small part of a huge Lake. There are dinner, dance, sunset, family, foliage and fireworks cruises, so there’s really no excuse for not getting out onto the lake. On some islands Sophie's visit is the social event of the day, and island residents often come to the dock to say hello, and purchase an ice cream treat, snack or souvenir. It even made USA Today‘s top summer venues in the U.S. list. My suggestions below focus on things to see and do — with and without kids — on the west side of Lake Winnipesaukee, since I know it best. But I’ve got a couple of suggestions at the end of this article in case you’re staying in one of the other scenic areas of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire (or you’re in the mood to explore). They say you can reach up to 70 miles an hour on this zipline, and while I’m certain I didn’t (since you can control the speed yourself), I’d still call it quite exciting. An 81-mile loop around the big lake takes you from Laconia, Meredith, Center Harbor, Ossipee Mountain area to Wolfeboro, and Finally landing you in the Alton Bay area.
